Here it is....a thing of beauty. (to me). I have been bugging hubby to make me a composter for 2 years and today was the big day. We had some old fence boards that a good friend of mine gave us last year when they put up a new fence. I very rarely throw anything away, neither does my husband only he won't admit it. So hubby went outside yesterday and started cutting and hammering and today he finished it. Of course, he couldn't have finished it without me. I used his nailer and did some heavy duty nailing too. Then we took her (the composter) out to the garden and she's ready to go. I love recycling and using old stuff to make new and beautiful things....like the composter.

Composter
I am so excited. My hubby started making me a composter yesterday and today it should be done and I have to decide where to put it. I think I will put it in the back right by the garden. I have such great plans for that garden this year. Last year was the first year we put vegetables in and it turned into a swamp because of all the rain. I am hoping this year will be different. Of course, we need to put more soil to raise the garden. My ideal would be to have raised beds but we will see. I would love to have a seating area in the garden so I can watch the veggies grow. I already have a beautiful iron bench in the garden but I need to make it more inviting. I will put in pictures of my compost bin as it gets done.

Restaurant
Well, Friday night my kids took my hubby and I out to dinner. We went to an Ethiopian restaurant. I have never been here before but my kids know I like to try different things (but not too different). They pre-ordered so we wouldnt have to wait as long. As it was we still had a fair wait. The food come on 1 plate, with beef, chicken and vegetables. Kind of like a sampler. Also, as a little surprise to me....no cutlery.. you just tear off a piece of this pancake thing and pick up your food with it. It was absolutely delicious. We had a great time. Then we went to my son's and DIL's place. But before we went we stopped and bought some decadent brownies. Oh, how fabulous. A wonderful evening. As always it is over too soon.

Cookies
Last night the power went out here in our little village. I don't know if it was out everywhere but at around 2 hubby wakes me up with.."Are you alright?" Well, I was until he woke me up. You see we both have cpap machines and obviously they go off. Well, I was oblivious to this and was still sleeping. He needs the machine more than I do so I guess when he couldn't breathe he thought I was the same. Needless to say, after that I cou
ldnt get back to sleep so I moved into the spare room. Still no good....so I got up and started baking cookies. The house smelled amazing this morning. So before hubby woke up I had a cup of tea and oatmeal cookies. Oatmeal is good for breakfast, isnt it? Yum. This recipe is right on the bag of oatmeal...how convenient...didnt even have to look through my recipe books.

Spring

It is a glorious spring day. The sun is shining and the snow is melting. You can just about hear it disappearing. I filled up the bird feeders and hubby and I sat on the deck watching them flit from feeder to feeder. Even the birds are happy to see the fog and gray skies disappear. Imagine...12 days of fog and cloud. Pretty depressing, but isn't it funny how we forget that when the sun warms us up. I walked around and checked to see if anything is poking through the soil in my flower beds...I am very impatient.

Birthday
I have been a little slow in blogging but I have been busy. Last Fri. March 5th, my family took me to a fantastic restaurant. It is called CHOP, kind of a steak and fish bar. Classy chic.. the food was fantastic. Three of them had steak of one kind or another and I have Mahi, Mahi. My daughter in law had salmon. Amazing food. I got a couple of charms for my Pandora bracelet. I was supposed to wait until after the meal to open my presents but I am like a kid and there is no way I was waiting. One of the charms is my birthstone bead and the other one is like a mini Bible with a cross on it. Very tiny but adorable. Now I have to buy charms for every special occasion and some just for the fun of it. The bracelet looks kind of plain with just the 2 charms. But it will fill up fast.
I am enjoying my Reader from my hubby. I have only 2 books on it so far but I read one already. I carry it everywhere I go. Well, back to my book.

the BIG one!!!!!!
Well, a couple of days ago I turned 60. A couple of days ago I couldnt even say the terrible #. It isn't much easier today but at least I can write about it. My husband is so supportive..."just think of the alternative" he says. My son called me on that day and sang "Happy 80th Birthday, mom". Now you should feel younger. Ha. Not funny. My daughter called but didnt know if she should completely ignore the day, or call and remind me how old I am and wish me a Happy Birthday. There was no winning that one she said.
My family is taking me out for dinner on Friday. My husband got me one of those "Readers" where you download e-books and can read anywhere. I love it but I still love to physically hold my book and smell the pages and feel the pages as I turn them. I love a pile of books sitting on the table or on the floor. My dream would be to have a whole room , top to bottom library shelves filled with books of all sizes. Kind of like a cocoon, wrapped around me.
I am going to buy myself a gift. I want one of those Pandora charm bracelets and just fill it with all those beautiful beads and charms. This weekend that is what I will get for myself. I deserve it. Well, maybe I dont deserve it but I want it and I will buy it.
